THE EDITORIAL
By K.Srikanth Welcome to the second edition of the e-galaxy. It has been a Herculean task for us to bring this second issue as most of our key members got bedridden and the internal examinations which are being conducted every month left us pressed for time. But still we are some how able to squeeze some time to bring this out. It is truly a labour of love! This time we have added some special features. We hope that you will surely find them interesting. I proudly inform you that our ‘e -galaxy’ is the first of its kind in our state and the response to our first edition was overwhelming. We have received feedback from all corners of our state and we thank them all for their encouragement.
Coming to the activities of the ENGLISH CLUB in this quarter, we have many achievements to our credit. They include participation in national level and state level U.G.C sponsored seminars, study tour to a school for the deaf and dumb apart from guest lectures from experts on soft skills and other creative activities.
To begin with, it is the first time in the history of our college that 23 under graduate students participated in a National Seminar. On 28th and 29th of June 2007, The Government College for Women, Guntur, organized a National Seminar in Literature, where nine members of our Club presented their papers with Power point Presentations. Eleven members presented a Skit named “A Snake in the Grass”, an innovative dramatization of the short story written by Sri. R. K. Narayan, which incidentally happens to be the I year Prose lesson. Suitable dialogues were written by our members.
In the month of August, 2 members presented their papers in a state level student seminar organized by Andhra Layola College, Vijayawada, on “Nanotechnology”. We are proud that one member bagged a prize too. You will find these papers presented by our student friends, in this issue.
In the month of September, nine more members presented papers in a UGC sponsored State level seminar at Palakol. The fact that all we are U.G students, pursuing our second year graduation, and that the areas of focus in all these seminars are widely different, ranging from literature to advanced sciences to human rights, makes us feel that we are putting our time to good use and deriving maximum benefit from our English Department’s encouragement.
The aim of this magazine is to create a kind of fondness towards English and help the students sharpen their skills. It intends to give a good scope for us to improve our formal writing skills, vocabulary and to exhibit our creative abilities. As you all know that communication skills are the need of the hour, we urge our readers to acknowledge the prominence of English and enhance their literary skills. We take this opportunity and welcome other College students to use this magazine as their platform for all their creative skills and contribute articles. We welcome your suggestions and feedback on this issue. --- EDITOR --- |
