1] A MEMORABLE MILESTONE

Sc.                                                                                                                           Unlike other seminars it was the most unforgettable one. In the 150 years of our college history 23 UG students of various groups participated in a UGC sponsored National Seminar at Guntur. We are thankful to the department of English for motivating and encouraging us to develop innovative skills in writing articles in writing articles in English apart from our regular lessons.

As a result we have chosen the relevant topics on R.K.Narayan. We have taken relevant books from our college library, and chosen different topics on Narayan and prepared our powerpoint presentations and full length papers which has taken almost 20 days.

            On 27th June we 23 members including our president Dr .B. Varalaskhmi went to Guntur to attend the National Seminar on “Indian ness in the novels of Mulk Raj Anand, R.K.Narayan and Raja Rao”. To pay tributes to the “Indian Trio” the Dept. of English, Govt. College for Women (NAAC B+), Guntur, A.P has organized a two day seminar on 28th and 29th of June 2007.

            The program started at 10’o clock on 28th morning, the inaugural session continued till 11.15 A.M. The President was Smt. V.O .Bhakta Kumari, principal of that college. Chief Guest was Prof R. K. Nirupa Rani, Vice Chancellor of AKNU RJY, A.P. The organizing Secretary was Dr. L. Sasi Bala.

             The key note address was given by Prof.K. Nirupa Rani and then we had plenary-1 and interaction by Prof. G.S. Bala Rama Gupta, Karnataka on “Indian English literature- some stray thoughts”. Afternoon we had two parallel sessions of paper presentations on the Trio. In the evening we had plenary-2 by Prof. K. Sundara Raj, Bangalore on “Indianization as a stylistic Device: A Stylistic study of Raja Rao’s Kantapura. From 4.00 P.M to 5.00 P.M we had two cultural programs. A skit “A Snake in the Grass” by R.K. Narayan, by the students of our college and a dance program by students of College for Women, Guntur on various cultures of India.  Next day we had plenary -3 by Prof. B. Parvathi, Andhra University, Visakhapatnam on “R.K.Narayan: fact, fiction & philosophy” and parallel sessions of paper presentations on Raja Rao And Narayan..We learnt many valuable and interesting things about the Indian Trio, their achievements and style of writing.
